"Little Edo" Kawagoe, a Window on Old Japan Near Tokyo
February 14, 2013, Kawagoe, Japan - The 16 meter Toki no Kane (Time Bell Tower) is the symbol of Kawagoe from the beginning of Edo Period. An old town from Edo Period (1603-1867) is located in Kawagoe, 30 minutes by train from central Tokyo. In the past Kawagoe was an important city for trade and strategic purpose, the shogun installed some of their most important loyal men as lords of Kawagoe Castle. Every year "Kawagoe Festival" is held in the third weekend of October, people pull portable shrine during the parade, later "dashi" floats on the streets nearby.
