Tsukiji Fish Market Will Move to Reclaimed Land in Toyosu
April 2, 2012, Tokyo, Japan - Construction gets underway at the new location for Tokyo's wholesale fish market in Toyosu area of the nations capital on Monday, April 2.12. .Tukiji fish market will move from its present location of more than 60 years at the mouth of Sumida River to a new site in Toyosu, some 2.3 km southeast. .The proposed site of the new market will cover about 40 hectares, twice as big as the present site. The new market is slated for completion in 2014 with the estimated cost of construction at 160 billion yen, less than what it would cost to redevelop the current facilities at Tsukiji.
