The number of children aged under 15 in Japan has hit a record low of under 17 million, according to a government report released Tuesday. The child population is estimated to have dropped 190,000 from a year earlier to 16.94 million, marking the 29th consecutive annual decline. The report also showed that children's share of the nation's entire population stood at 13.3%, compared with 23% for a population of people aged over 65.
